A 53-year-old man from Glen Maye has been fined £210 for speeding during the Festival of Motorcyling.
Daryl Anthony Kelly, of Glen Maye Park, admitted riding his motorcycle at 51mph in a 30mph zone at Sulby Bridge on August 21.
He also had his licence endorsed with five penalty points and was ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.
The court heard how, at 10.52am, Kelly was riding a KTM trail bike from Glen Maye to Ramsey to visit a garage about his car.
Defence advocate Ian Kermode said: ’He would say it was a leisurely ride.
’It was during Manx Grand Prix week. He would say it was a momentary lapse of concentration.’
Mr Kermode continued: ’He wasn’t property observing his speedometer.’
He explained that his client had been riding a bike for 19 years, driving for 35 years and had held a heavy goods vehicle driving licence for 31 years. He said this was his first blemish in respect of motoring matters.’
Mr Kermode went on to ask for credit to be given for Kelly’s guilty plea and co-operation when stopped by police.
’His attitude is one of disappointment that he has let himself down in this way,’ said the advocate.
