The fire service is carrying out an investigation into what caused a blaze in Onchan.

Crews were called out to a report of a property on fire at Main Road, next door to Corkill’s filling station, at 5.07pm on Christmas Eve.

The owner of the property raised the alarm before he led his dogs to safety.

Four firefighters extinguished the fire on the first floor of the building.

Station officer Tony Duncan said: ’The fire was contained to the first floor but smoke damage was extensive throughout the property.

’A male was given oxygen therapy by firefighters for the effects of smoke inhalation prior to ambulance attendance. An investigation into the cause of the fire is being undertaken.’

Crews stayed there for 90 minutes.
