A 21-year-old motorist whose car crashed into a lamppost on New Year’s Eve has been fined £250 and ordered to pay £500 compensation to the Department of Infrastructure.

Ricky Francis Ronald Tickle, of Albany Road, Douglas, also hadhis licence endorsed with five penalty points after admitting careless driving, having no vehicle licence and having no insurance.

The court heard how, on December 31 at 8pm, police were called to an accident on King Edward Road in Onchan where Tickle’s Nissan Micra had crashed into a lamppost.

Tickle was at the scene and said he was on his way from delivering takeaways and it had been his first time driving the vehicle.

Prosecutor Richard Butters said the takeaway owner had been reported for permitting a vehicle to be driven without insurance.

Defence advocate Deborah Myerscough said: ’Mr Tickle was only 20 at the time. He has perhaps not been the smartest individual in checking the vehicle had proper tax and was insured.’
