Fire crews from two stations were called to a fire this morning which destroyed a tractor.

Crews were despatched from Douglas and Laxey to the fire at 9.10am at a farm in Onchan.

The fire was in a field off Begoade Road which runs from the Whitebridge up to the junction of the Creg-ny-Baa Back Road and Ballacollister Road.

A fire service spokesman said: ’On arrival the Officer-in-Charge of the first attending appliance reported the vehicle well alight.

’Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus used high pressure hose reels and a jet to extinguish the tractor fire and prevent radiated heat setting fire to nearby silage bales.’

An electrical fault is suspected to have started the fire and crews remained in attendance for 90 minutes.’
