Fire crews attended a bedroom fire at a Douglas home.

The incident took place yesterday (Saturday) with the Douglas fire crews being called to the Victoria Terrace house at 6.15pm.

On arrival, the officer in charge of the first appliance ensured that all occupants were out of their home.

A breathing apparatus team entered the smoke-logged house with a hose-reel and CO2 extinguisher.

They discovered the fire was confined to a bedroom.

Once extinguished, crews checked for hot spots with thermal imaging cameras before ventilating the smoke-logged home using a ’positive pressure ventilation fan’.

Station officer Matt Tyrer said: ’Smoke alarms save lives!

’Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries. If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out.’

Two fire appliances attended the scene.
