Fire crews were called out to rescue a horse from a ditch.

It was one of two incidents that the fire service responded to today (Tuesday).

Ramsey crews recovered the horse using a combination of strops and lines.

The owner and a vet were also at the scene, in Sulby.

Crews were in attendance for about half an hour.

Meanwhile, two Douglas crews dealt with a chimney fire at a property on Head Road, Douglas, at 9.30am.

Station officer Brian Quirk said: ’On arrival crews discovered a well-established fire high up in the chimney stack and an aerial ladder platform was mobilised to assist with access.

’Crews were in attendance for just over an hour.’
