Firearms officers were deployed following reports of a serious assault in Douglas last night.

Officers from the Operational Support Group including firearms and dog officers were deployed to assist uniform officers in the search for two males following the alleged incident.

A man was treated for serious injuries.

Two men were arrested and are helping police with their inquiries.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A police spokesman said firearms are deployed for a variety of reasons where there could be a potential risk to the public or officers. He said the incident to which police responded did not involve a firearm and there was no wider risk to the general public.

He said: ’During this search an area of Kensington Avenue, Douglas was closed. There was no risk to the general public and two males were arrested.

’If you were in the area of Rosemount, Kensington Rd or Kensington Avenue around 7pm last night (November 5) you are asked to contact CID at Police Headquarters on 631301 as soon as possible.’
