A 39-year-old fisherman has been fined £100 after aiming a kick at a police officer.

Darren James Carnochan, St Paul’s Square, Ramsey, admitted resisting arrest and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.

Other charges of two counts of common assault on a female, two of possession of an offensive weapon, and three of damaging property were withdrawn by the prosecution.

The offence was committed on June 11.

Advocate Peter Taylor entered a basis of plea for his client in which Carnochan said that he had kicked out during his arrest during the course of a struggle while he was trying to stop police putting leg restraints on him.

It was said that Carnochan had spent 12 days on remand since the incident.

Mr Taylor said: ’Mr Carnochan has unfortunately reacted badly in a situation and regrets his actions. He is anxious to put this behind him.’

Magistrates chair Geoff Collier said that Carnochan’s time on remand had been taken into account when passing sentence.
