Five men have appeared in court after police smashed an alleged drug ring involved in smuggling more than half a million pounds worth of drugs to the island.
Jamie Mark Smith, aged 31, of Maple Avenue, Onchan, is charged with three counts of production of cannabis to the island, one of being involved in the supply of cocaine, and one of being involved in the supply of cannabis.
Darren Noel Dooley, aged 28, care of the Isle of Man prison, is charged with seven counts of production of a class C drug to the island, seven counts of possession of a class C drug, one count of offering to supply a class C drug, one count of being concerned in the supply of cocaine, one count of being concerned in the supply of cannabis, and production of cannabis to the island.
Francis Richard Dunne, aged 34, of Vauxhall, Liverpool, is accused of three counts of production of cannabis to the island, and one of being concerned in an arrangement regarding criminal property, namely £85,680 in cash.
Stephen Joseph James Alty, aged 39, of Litherland, Liverpool, is charged with three counts of production of cannabis to the island.
All four men are yet to enter pleas to the charges.
Liam Dunne, aged 32, of Bootle, Liverpool, pleaded not guilty to three counts of production of cannabis to the island.
The cannabis allegations were said to have stemmed from two previous arrests of men who were travelling to the island from Heysham.
In February last year £442,423 worth of cannabis was found by police hidden in a secret compartment in a car and in April, £144,496 worth of the drug was found also hidden in a vehicle.
A search by Merseyside police of a house in Liverpool was said to have found a bag of cash estimated at between £20,000 and £30,000, which included Manx notes, with a machete behind a door.
Both men have already been dealt with at the Court of General Gaol Delivery.
The five men will appear in court again on February 28.
A bail application by Mr Alty and Mr Smith was refused by magistrates and all five men have been remanded.
