Port St Mary RNLI rescued two men and two children from a yacht in difficulty yesterday (Saturday).
The lifeboat crew was called out following a report from Belfast of a 28 foot yacht in trouble about 50 yards from Chapel Bay beach, Port St Mary. It was reported that rope had stopped the boat’s propeller from working.
The inshore lifeboat Spirit of Leicester was launched with three volunteer crew on board at 3.45 pm.
It arrived at the casualty vessel at 4pm where the RNLI crew assessed that the occupants onboard were safe before providing a towline.
By 4.15pm the lifeboat had towed the yacht back to its mooring in Port St Mary harbour.
Following the callout, Port St May RNLI helm Morgan Guy said: ’This was a straightforward callout for our volunteers and for the yachtsmen they helped to bring to safety.
’The two children on board were suffering from a little sea-sickness but quickly recovered.’
Weather conditions at the times were breezy with a force three to four westerly wind.
