A teenager who stole £400 cash while working at Peel Golf Club has been put on probation for two years.
Jakob Michael Hewer, of Mona Street, Peel, admitted the theft offence and was ordered to repay the money at a rate of £10 per week.
A previous community service order, imposed in February 2019 after he received cannabis in the post, was also revoked due to Hewer being unable to complete it for health reasons.
That was replaced with a two-year probation order to run concurrently with the other.
We previously reported that Hewer, who is 19, was employed at the golf club between December 2019 and March 2020 working behind the bar.
The teenager was said to have taken numerous amounts of cash from the till after processing transactions as refunds to customers or voided payments.
On March 6 he was arrested but when interviewed by police denied taking any cash.
When asked why there were so many refunds and void transactions when he was working he claimed that he would do this when he needed to find out a price.
He also said that his girlfriend had worked behind the bar and that he had processed some transactions when she had made an error.
However, Hewer was interviewed again on April 26 and this time admitted stealing around £400.
He told police he had forgotten that he had stolen the money when he was interviewed the first time and admitted that his girlfriend never used the till.
Defence advocate Paul Glover asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea and for the court to follow the recommendation of a probation report which suggested Hewer work with probation.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said that she would follow the recommendation saying that Hewer’s reports had been ’excellent’.
He was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
