There might have been a lot of rain recently but that doesn’t mean fires cannot break out outside, firefighters are warning.

On Thursday afternoon firefighters were called to a gorse fire near the river in Patrick.

Crews could only get to the fire by foot and off road vehicles. A specialist off road appliance from Kirk Michael was also requested to attend.

About 200 x 300 yards of gorse was involved crews were tackled the blaze for about two hours.

A fire service spokesman said: ’The cause is not known. However, this does demonstrate that despite the recent rainfall the undergrowth is still very susceptible to fire, so we would like to remind the public to still be vigilant when out in the countryside.’
