A Ramsey woman has been fined £500 for being drunk and disorderly.

Donna Margaret Boyde got into an argument with another customer at the Mitre on West Quay then swore at police when they arrived.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered the 48-year-old to pay £125 prosecution costs after she pleaded guilty to the offence.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court how police were called to the Ramsey pub on September 14 at 8.45pm after a report of a disturbance.

Boyde, who lives at Bircham Avenue Close, was described as slurring her words and unsteady on her feet.

She was repeatedly swearing and shouting and was difficult for officers to manage, despite being told to calm down.

Her behaviour was said to have been distressing for other patrons in the pub and she was subsequently arrested as she began shouting and swearing at police.

Defence advocate Paul Glover asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea and for the offence to be dealt with by way of a fine.

Mr Glover said that Boyde had just one previous conviction, two-and-a-half years ago for a similar offence.

’She informed me there was an argument with a friend and her emotions got the better of her,’ said the advocate.

’There was no physical violence or damage to any property. We are talking about verbals only.

’She is a 48-year-old grandmother and knows she should have behaved differently.’

Boyde was ordered to pay the fine and costs at a rate of £10 per week deducted from benefits.
