Police investigating a stabbing incident in Douglas have now revealed that a hammer may have also been used in the attack.

Six people were arrested - including two on suspicion of attempted murder - following the incident on Victoria Road in the early hours of Saturday, April 20.

Two people had been injured, with one suffering an apparent stab wound.

Police said the other had injuries consistent with blunt trauma and have now confirmed that a hammer could potentially have been used.

Neither had suffered ’life-threatening’ injuries, they said, and both have now been released from hospital.

But one of the injured men has contacted iomtoday, claiming he had been struck nine times around the head with a hammer.

He said he had discharged himself from hospital after two days.

’I’m lucky to be alive,’ he said.

’The injuries were 100% life threatening.’

A police spokesman said: ’Inquiries are continuing. It would seem that as well as a knife, a hammer was potentially involved.

’The injuries, by the time they were stabilised in hospital, were not life threatening.

’The fact they left a few days later supports this.

’Six people were arrested including two on suspicion of attempted murder.’

All those arrested have been released on bail.
