Peel Coastguards assisted paramedics in evacuating an injured man who had slipped and dislocated their knee on an old railway line.

A helicopter was used to rescue the worker who had been carrying out maintenance on the Peel to St Johns railway line. The team had been called to the incident at 2.40pm on Monday (February 18).

The casualty was taken to the ambulance before being admitted to hospital for further treatment. The Coastguard team was back on station and stood down at 4pm.

Members of the team were called out to another incident on the previous Saturday (February 16), which involved a horse rider.

The horse rider had fallen and injured themselves on Glen Wyllin beach in Kirk Michael.

A spokesman said: ’On arrival, the casualty was assessed by paramedics and we removed them from the beach and transferred them to the waiting ambulance.

’We were back on station ready for the next call-out by 4.30pm.’
