A man who threatened a nurse and a hotel owner has been remanded in custody, pending sentencing.
Ryan Reed, 35, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to provoking behaviour and criminal damage, when he appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes, via live link, on Tuesday morning.
Reed, who had been staying at the Ellan Vannin Hotel, in Douglas, threatened the nurse, the hotel manager and threw a kettle and a mug out of the window of the hotel, breaking them.
Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the court that Reed was staying in the room next to the nurse, on Sunday (May 17). He had been playing loud music all day, but as this had been throughout the afternoon, no issue was raised with or by the manager.
When the receptionist at the hotel took food to the nurse at 7pm, she said she had concerns over Reed as she believed him to be drunk.
The hotel manager spoke to him and asked Reed to turn the music down.
Reed then knocked on the nurse’s door and began to yell at her, calling her a ’grass’ and threatening to kill her.
After this, the hotel manager and his son went to the room and told Reed he had 10 minutes to pack his bags and leave. Instead Reed continued to swear at the owner and threatened to smash up the room he was staying in.
This caused the manager to call the police.
Reed then threw a kettle and a mug out of the window onto the flat roof below.
When arrested by officers he said ’fair play’ but gave no comment to questions at police headquarters.
Defence advocate Paul Glover said his client had been staying at the hotel having left mental health facility Manannan Court the day before. He said Reed had been seeing mental health professionals.
Mr Glover said his client accepted that remand was likely and made no bail application.
High Bailiff Mrs Hughes remanded Reed until sentencing on June 16 to allow for a probation report to be completed.
