A husband assaulted his partner in a row over her ’low cut top’ after a night out, a court has heard.
The victim called police when she was prevented from leaving her home after being assaulted.
Barry John Lees, of School Road, Onchan, appeared before magistrates on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to an offence of common assault on a female.
The 23-year-old will be sentenced on April 21 after a probation report has been prepared.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that police received a 999 call from the woman on March 1 at 3.35am at an address in Hailwood Avenue in Douglas.
She said that her husband would not let her leave the house and had thrown her around the room, causing her to bang her head on a kitchen cupboard.
When police arrived Lees had left but the woman told police that they had argued after a night out and that her husband had told her that her top was too low cut.
She said he gripped her by the wrists and threw her around the house and ripped the rings from her fingers and also said he had headbutted her.
The woman said she tried to leave the house but Lees prevented her until she called the police.
She was taken to Noble’s Hospital and Lees was later arrested after he returned to the house.
The victim later said that she did not wish to pursue a complaint.
During police interview Lees gave a similar account to that of his wife, saying he had been drinking and had lost his temper.
He admitted he was the main instigator of the argument.
He admitted grabbing her wrists and pulling her rings off but said he did not recall any headbutt.
Lees said there had been pushing and shoving from both of them and that he ran off when he realised she had called the police.
In court, Lees’ advocate James Peterson entered a basis of plea for his client in which Lees denied any butt or banging her head against the cupboard.
Bail was granted with a condition that Lees reside at his home address.
