A joiner who got angry over a takeaway bill has ended up with a £600 fine.

Michael Robert Asbridge was restrained by police with Pava spray after the incident at Flaming Great on Buck’s Road in Douglas.

The 30-year-old, who lives at St Catherine’s Close, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly, an offence which also put him in breach of a previous conditional discharge.

Magistrates ordered him to pay another £400 in respect of the breach.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that Asbridge went to Flaming Great on September 26 at 12.31am.

He was said to have been unhappy with the bill for his food and became aggressive.

Police were called but he had left by this time and was found walking towards Fairfield Terrace.

When officers spoke to him he was described as being animated and aggressive, as well as slurring his words and being unsteady on his feet.

He swore at police despite being asked to calm down several times.

As his aggressive behaviour continued police used Pava spray to restrain him and then handcuff him.

The court heard that he was in breach of a two-year conditional discharge imposed for a similar offence.

Defence advocate Paul Rodgers handed in letters of reference for his client.

Mr Rodgers said: ’Mr Asbridge spent £14.60 and wasn’t happy that the food he received matched his order.

’He was upset but he did leave. He appreciates he needs to address situations he gets into after drinking. He intends not to drink for a significant period.’

Magistrates also ordered Asbridge to pay £125 prosecution costs.

He will pay all amounts at a rate of £40 per week.
