A 41-year-old joiner who bit a bouncer and tried to headbutt him has been sentenced to community service.

Tomasz Jacek Stachowiak admitted common assault and being drunk and disorderly after the incident outside the Bordello nightclub.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered him to do 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £250 compensation to the doorman.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that police were called to the Loch Promenade bar in Douglas on December 12 at 1.50am.

Security staff said they had escorted Stachowiak out of the nightclub but outside he had resisted, punching out, hitting one bouncer in the chest then biting his shoulder, before trying to headbutt him.

He was arrested and said to be slurring his words and unsteady on his feet.

When interviewed by police Stachowiak said that he had been assaulted inside the club and felt that he had been unfairly removed.

He said he was totally against violence and would never attempt to bite anyone.

No lasting injuries were caused to the bouncer.

A probation report said that Stachowiak, of Demesne Road, Douglas, was born in Poland and moved here for work in 2007.

He told probation he had been out with a friend but had then become separated so he had gone to Bordello and consumed around six rum and Cokes.

He said he wanted to apologise for his behaviour but could not recall the biting saying ordinarily he would never lash out at anyone.

Defence advocate Sara-Jayne Dodge said that her client was fearful of custody as he was the breadwinner for his family.

High Bailiff Mrs Hughes sentenced Stachowiak to 120 hours for each offence, to run concurrently.

He was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.
