Police have urged motorists to take care when overtaking slow moving road users- saying that in three recent incidents it was only sheer luck that no one was injured.

They say they have had to speak to drivers who have decided to overtake, in an inappropriate manner, those who could be classed as vulnerable road users.

A cyclist was nearly hit by a car and runners had to jump Into a hedge to avoid being hit, they said.

In another incident, shown in this picture, a car decided to ’get within touching distance of a horse’, a police spokesman said.

He added: ’The driver decided to squeeze through with another car coming in the opposite direction. This is unacceptable.

’On all three occasions it has only been sheer luck that has prevented someone being injured. Some drivers need to understand that at times there will be slower moving traffic on the road and that they can only overtake once it is safe to do so. Please take your time.’
