A kitchen porter has pleaded guilty after stealing cash and food items from a family home.

Anthony Collis, of Bowling Green Road in Castletown, admitted one charge of burglary when appearing in front of High Bailiff Jayne Hughes via video link on Tuesday.

The court heard that Collis entered a home on in Castletown and took a jar containing about £60 cash from an 11-year-old girl’s bedroom, along with food items from the kitchen on Monday (June 15).

A teenage occupant saw Collis at 3.10am and alerted his father.

Collis then fled the premises and was caught by police who discovered him with the stolen items.

The 23-year-old admitted to the police that he had burgled the house after drinking on a beach and could not remember much apart from being chased out of the property.

Mrs Hughes ordered that he be remanded in custody and will appear for sentencing at the Court of General Gaol Delivery on July 3.
