Kittens were rescued from a house fire in Douglas.

Firefighters were called out at 2.30pm yesterday (Saturday) to reports of a fire at a home in Harcroft Road, Douglas.

A neighbour had heard the smoke alarm sounding.

On arrival crews were informed that no one was in the property but a number of cats and kittens remained inside.

A team wearing breathing apparatus was sent in to the smoke-filled property to investigate.

Using thermal imaging equipment they discovered and extinguished a small fire confined to a cooker hob and were able to quickly locate and retrieve all of the pets, none the worse for their ordeal.

Fire chiefs praised the swift actions of the neighbour in dialling 999.

The early intervention meant that fire and smoke damage in the property was kept to a minimum.
