A 26-year-old Douglas man has been jailed for 18 weeks after admitting carrying a bladed article and resisting arrest.

Jonathan James Elliott, of Tynwald Road, was already the subject of a two-year probation order imposed in November for knife-related incident.

The latest incident occurred on January 27 and was said to involve Elliott possessing a bladed article which looked like a credit card.

Police had to restrain him using Pava spray twice.

Defence advocate Paul Glover said: ’Mr Elliott accepts the police were trying to help him. However, upon receiving some bad news from the police officer he got upset. He had no intent on using the knife.’

Mr Glover went on to say that his client had been diagnosed with ADHD.

The court heard that Elliott has a previous conviction for resisting arrest in 2015.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Elliott: ’I went out on a limb imposing a probation order and you are back before me a short time later.’

Mrs Hughes sentenced him to 10 weeks for possessing the bladed article and eight weeks for resisting arrest, to run consecutively. He was also banned from licensed premises and purchasing or being sold alcohol for 12 months.
