Douglas lifeboat Sir William Hillary was called out on Thursday to help a fishing boat with a failed engine.

The volunteer RNLI crew answered the call at 2.23pm from the eight-metre boat which had left Douglas that morning heading south with four people on board.

The boat suffered an engine failure as a result of a blocked fuel line at around 2pm when it was a mile off Port Grenaugh.

When all attempts to clear the blockage and restart the engine failed, the crew contacted the coastguard for help.

An RNLI spokesman said the lifeboat, with coxswain Neal Corran, headed south in a flat calm sea to the fishing boat’s last reported position and with excellent visibility the vessel and crew were quickly found.

There were no casualties and the lifeboat towed the fishing boat back to Douglas to a berth on the Battery Pier Visitors’ Pontoon where Douglas Coastguard was waiting to help.
