A person was injured when he or she fell while out walking at Port Lewaigue, south of Ramsey, yesterday.

Ramsey RNLI was paged at 4.39pm by the Coastguard.

The location of the injured person made it difficult to reach him or her by land.

The volunteer lifeboat crew of the RNLB Ruby Clery, under the command of coxswain Mark Kenyon, launched at 4.50pm and quickly reached the scene near Port Lewaigue.

Crew members from Ramsey Lifeboat used the lifeboat’s daughter boat, an inflatable dinghy, to reach two casualties.

They were transferred to the safety of Ramsey lifeboat.

The lifeboat arrived at Ramsey Harbour at 5.25pm and the casualties were transferred to the care of Ramsey Coastguard. One of the casualties was checked over by ambulance paramedics.

Mr Kenyon said: ’The casualties had been walking along the beach near Port Lewaigue and the tide had forced them up into the rocks near the base of the cliff.

’Whilst walking amongst the rocks one of the pair slipped and fell sustaining injuries which, due to the location and tide, required them to be extracted by dingy to the lifeboat. I am pleased that the injuries seem relatively minor although they were clearly painful for the person concerned.

’If you are planning to walk along the beach you should check the tide times to ensure that you have sufficient time to reach your intended destination. If you do get into difficulties on the beach you should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.’
