A 35-year-old man has been fined £850 for possessing cocaine and resisting arrest.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court officers were called at 1am after reports of Poglodek ’falling about’ and leaning over harbour railings. When police spoke to him he could only manage to say ’Demesne Road’ so police took him there.
He was assisted inside but then wouldn’t go up stairs so police asked him if he had his keys and got permission to take then from his pocket.
A small wrap containing white powder was caught up with the keys which Poglodek then tried to grab.
He was handcuffed as he kicked out at police and was eventually restrained after a struggle on the ground.
The powder was found to be 1.2g of cocaine valued at £120.
Poglodek has no previous convictions. Defence advocate David Reynolds said his client had been out on a Christmas party with workmates.
’He is not usually a heavy drinker. He has no real recollection of the offences. He tells me he doesn’t take drugs and doesn’t understand how he was in possession of the drugs.’
He must pay £125 costs.
