A 46-year-old man has been charged with nine sexual offences allegedly involving a child.

Andrew Christian Godding, of Richmond Close, Douglas, is accused of two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 16, two counts of indecent assault on a child, three counts of procuring a person under 16 to commit gross indecency, one count of buggery with a person under 16, and one of possessing indecent images of children.

He is yet to enter pleas to the charges.

The case will be committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery on July 13.

Eight of the offences are alleged to have been committed between January 2016 and December 2018 while the other is alleged between December 2001 and February 2002.

Godding has been on bail and on Tuesday asked for a bail condition prohibiting from leaving the island to be removed between June 3 and 17 so he could visit his mother in the UK.

Permission was granted for the trip by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

Godding was ordered to contact police upon his return and provide copies of his return ticket in advance of the trip.
