A 30-year-old man has appeared in court after admitting growing cannabis at his Port Erin home.

Sean Thomas Patrick O’Neill, of Church Road, had 11 plants in his loft along with heating and lighting devices.

He will be sentenced on November 26 after a probation report has been completed.

We previously reported how, on January 22 at 8.12am, police executed a search warrant at Church Road.

A small amount of cannabis resin was found in the living room but police also found the 11 plants in two tents in the loft along with the heating and lighting devices, which O’Neill said he had bought online, and a book on cannabis cultivation.

He was arrested and in police interview said all the cannabis was his.

He said that only two of the plants were for cannabis and the others were going to be used for CBD oil for cooking.

O’Neill told police he smoked cannabis daily using it for his anxiety and depression.

He said that his partner, who lived with him, had no knowledge of the drugs.

The case had previously been adjourned due to a dispute between the prosecution and defence over the projected yield of the plants.

This was accepted at between 217 grams and 252 grams with a projected value of between £4,100 and £4,500.

Defence advocate Peter Taylor said that eight plants and three seedlings had been found at his client’s home.

Magistrates ordered that the probation report consider all options, including custody.

Bail continues in the sum of £500 with a condition that O’Neill reside at his home address.
