A man has admitted handling stolen goods just days after he was released on bail for two thefts.

Last week we reported how Craig Phillip Teare, of Crossag Close, in Ballasalla, admitted stealing £365 worth of meat from Tesco in order to pay off a drug debt.

The 33-year-old was bailed on July 18 after admitting two counts of theft but just four days laterm, on Monday (July 22), he was arrested again after he was caught with £257 worth of clothes stolen from Marks and Spencer.

Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court how police had spoken to Teare at 1.35pm on July 22 after he was seen acting suspiciously at Howard Street, in Douglas, carrying a large pink bag containing clothing with tags still on.

He told police he was holding them for somebody and they were confirmed as being stolen from Marks and Spencer.

Last week we reported that Teare said he had been bundled into a car by two men from the UK who took him to Marine Drive and threatened him, demanding that he steal for them to pay off his drug debt.

He then took £75 worth of meat from Tesco but was told by the men it was not enough so he was sent back in this time coming out in what was described as a ’trolley dash’ with £290 worth of meat.

He was caught during the second theft at which point the first theft was discovered after CCTV was viewed.

Defence advocate Stephen Wood asked for bail to be granted for his client saying that all the offences were of relatively low value and that the goods had been recovered, except for the £75 worth of meat.

Mr Wood also said that Teare had a job at a construction company.

But High Bailiff Jayne Hughes refused to grant bail and remanded him in custody.

He will appear in court again on July 30.
