Another offender has admitted importing £2,759-worth of cannabis to the island in the post.
Reece Nathan Evans had the package sent to a friend’s address but admitted to police he had ordered it.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes accepted jurisdiction and he will be sentenced in summary court on July 6 after a probation report has been completed.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that a package was intercepted at the Post Office sorting office in Braddan on March 11.
It was found to contain 86.6 grams of cannabis bush, valued at £2,598, and 28.3 grams of cannabis resin, said to have a street value of £161.
The package was not addressed to Evans, who lives in Pairk Ollay, Ramsey, but when police spoke to the addressee she said that the 23-year-old had ordered it via a person he played games online with.
When interviewed by police Evans admitted he had ordered the cannabis and said he had paid £650 for it. He said that he suffered from insomnia and had mental health issues, but Isle of Man prices were so high he decided to risk ordering it, though he had not wanted to use his own name and address.
The court heard that he has a previous caution for a production-related offence.
Defence advocate Paul Rodgers asked for a probation report to be prepared before sentencing.
High Bailiff Mrs Hughes ordered that the report consider all sentencing options, including custody, and said that an aggravating feature was that Evans had involved someone else by ordering the drug in their name.
Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions to reside at his home address, contact probation, and not leave the island without court consent.
Since the beginning of the pandemic there have been dozens of cases of people appearing in court after allegedly receiving cannabis in the post.
