A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a suspect package found at Post Office headquarters.

Police confirmed that the man was arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause an explosion, making or keeping explosives with intent to endanger life or property and another offence of endangering public safety.

Police were called to Isle of Man Post Office’s sorting office on the Spring Valley Industrial Estate at 8.45am on Tuesday January 21 after staff found a suspicious looking package.

A specialist unit from the Ministry Of Defence was called in.

Police said a 21-year-old man from the north of the island was arrested on Sunday January 26.

The man has been assisting detectives with the ongoing investigation and is currently on police bail.

A police spokesman said: ’At this current time we won’t be disclosing the contents of the suspect package as this is still a line of enquiry for the investigation team.’
