A Peel man has been put on probation and banned from entering on-licensed premises after he brandished a kitchen knife in public while drunk.

Frightened residents in Heathfield Drive, Peel, called the police following the incident on June 18.

Jamie Griffin, 28, of Fenella Terrace, admitted having a knife in a public place and drunk and disorderly behaviour when he appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes last week.

Meanwhile, Griffin pleaded guilty to damaging a door belonging to Peel Commissioners in February following a verbally abusive conversation with his father.

The court heard the defendant had punched and kicked the door before barricading himself in his room.

Police entered the room and restrained Griffin who gave a ’no comment’ interview to officers.

Defence advocate Kate Alexander said that Griffin has been going through a ’difficult time’ having been badly injured in an accident in 2013 and is ’lacking support’.

Mrs Hughes pointed out that Griffin had committed the most serious crimes while he was on bail for the first offence.

Griffin was given an 18-month probation order and was banned from entering on-licensed premises and buying alcohol for 12 months.
