A Ramsey man has been convicted of stealing alcohol twice in a three-week period.

Jason Liam Christian, aged 26, of Queen’s Pier Road, pleaded guilty to both counts of theft and will be sentenced after a probation report has been completed.

Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court that Christian’s first theft was on July 22 when he stole two bottles of wine worth a total of £9.20 from the Co-op in Christian Street in Ramsey.

He then returned to the store on August 12 and this time took a bottle of vodka worth £19.

Police arrested Christian on August 13 when he was found at a relative’s house asleep on a sofa.

Assistance

He was said to be drunk and needed assistance to walk.

When interviewed by police Christian told them he had an alcohol problem and stole the booze because he didn’t have any money.

Defence advocate Paul Glover told the court that Christian was currently signed off work sick and was claiming benefits.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said that Christian has numerous previous convictions, including ones for drunkeness and dishonesty and adjourned the case until August 29 when a probation report will be completed.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with a condition not to enter Ramsey Co-op.
