A Ramsey man who crossed a closed road twice during this year’s TT festival has been fined.
Robert John Lloyd, of Ballure Road, admitted committing the offence near the Hairpin in Ramsey on the Thursday of race week, June 5.
Chair of the magistrates Belinda Pilling told 53-year-old Lloyd: ’This was an incredibly stupid thing to do.
’You did it not only once, but twice.’
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court that Lloyd was reported to police by marshals who had seen Lloyd crossing the road near Ramsey Hairpin at 1.10pm and then again at 1.30pm.
He was spoken to by officers at Ramsey police station.
He told them that he believed because the roads were wet there would be no racing and that the roads were either open or about to open.
He told police he did not believe his actions had the potential to put anyone at risk.
Cordons
Defence advocate Michael Mudge said: ’My client’s position is that, although the roads were closed, there had been no racing that day.
’The weather was very wet.
’Cordons blocking the entry had been up all week irrespective of whether the roads were open or closed.
’But he accepts he should have made enquiries as to whether the roads were open.’
Mr Mudge went on to say that Lloyd had apologised to the marshals at the time of the incident.
The advocate continued: ’It is important to note, where he accessed was a slow part of the course.’
Lloyd was fined a total of £800.
Magistrates also ordered Lloyd to pay £50 prosecution costs.
He must pay the fine and costs within one month.
