A man admitted vandalising a neighbour’s car even though he had no recollection of the incident.
Jamie William Leneghan, aged 30, of Edremony, Port Erin, admitted property damage and was ordered by magistrates to pay £2,827 in compensation to the vehicle owner and carry out 60 hours of community service.
We previously reported that a neighbour reported hearing a loud noise during the night of November 11, which she said sounded like dustbins being thrown around.
She said she saw a man running into one of the houses nearby.
Leneghan contacted police himself and admitted that they were looking for him.
He said he had been out drinking and got into a row but could not remember what had happened.
He said the damage had clearly been caused by him as it was him who had been seen running into the house.
Defence advocate Ian Kermode said: ’Unfortunately, Mr Leneghan has no recollection of committing the offence.
’He recalls being in an argument in the pub and was angry and highly intoxicated. He accepts damaging the vehicle. He feels ashamed and wishes to apologise.
’He did send a text apologising to the car owner.’
A probation report said that Leneghan only found out what he’d done the next morning when the car owner phoned his partner.
The report said that he had not drunk alcohol since the incident.
Magistrates ordered Leneghan to pay the compensation at a rate of £25 per week.
He must also pay £50 prosecution costs.
