A Douglas man was this week fined after waving his penis at passers-by in Athol Street at 7pm on a Saturday night.
Nicholas Derek Jones, of Peel Road, dropped his shorts to his knees and thrust his hips back and forth causing his genitals to fly upwards as witnesses looked on in shock.
The 34-year-old admitted indecent behaviour and was fined £100.
Prosecutor James Robinson told the court how, on September 8 at 7pm, police were called to Athol Street in Douglas after reports of a man in the road with his shorts down to his knees.
Witnesses told officers Jones was waving his penis at passing people and thrusting his hips with his hands out to the side.
He was later arrested at his Peel Road address and CCTV footage showed him with his shorts around his knees.
Defence advocate Paul Glover said: ’Alcohol was the main factor. Far too much to drink is the explanation. Mr Jones is embarrassed and appalled, especially given the time of day. It was relatively early.’
Mr Glover went on to say that his client only had one relevant previous conviction, for being found drunk in a public place in August 2017.
’He is absolutely appalled by his actions, induced by alcohol,’ said the advocate.
’But he is responsible, he chose to get himself into that state.’
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said that the maximum fine for the offence was £200 but expressed surprise that the defendant had not been charged with a different offence.
Mrs Hughes told Jones: ’Goodness knows what was going through your mind at 7pm on September 8.
’The offence is made worse by the fact it was committed when people are getting ready to go out or finishing shopping.
’The last thing anyone wanted to see was a man waving his penis.’
