A man has been fined £400 for being drunk and disorderly outside a Douglas pub.

Thomas Alan Davies, aged 26, of Bemahague Avenue, Onchan, had refused to leave the Thirsty Pigeon, on Victoria Street, without his telephone, claiming it had been stolen.

It later emerged he had dropped it in the toilets.

Prosecutor Hazel Carroon told the court that, on April 22 at 12.15am, police were called to the Douglas pub after a report of Davies refusing to leave.

When officers arrived they found him outside and he told them he was trying to find his mobile phone.

He was said to have repeatedly sworn at police despite being advised to leave the area.

Staff at the pub said Davies had been verbally abusive inside, alleging that someone had stolen his phone.

They said he punched a wall and spilled drinks as he was asked to leave.

Outside, Davies continued to swear and argue with police telling them: ’Go and get my phone,’ until he was arrested.

Defence advocate Louise Cooil said the pub had not made an official complaint about Davies.

She said: ’Mr Davies attended the Thirsty Pigeon a day later and was given his phone.

’It had fallen out of his pocket in the toilet. He had become agitated because all his contacts and data was on it.

’He has dealt with it in entirely the wrong way. It was Easter Sunday and he had been out all day.

’He intends to go and apologise to staff. He wouldn’t have acted in that way had not been intoxicated at the time.’

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Davies: ’You reacted completely inappropriately. Had you responded more calmly you might not have been before the court today.’

Davies admitted the offence and was ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
