A Douglas man has been fined £350 for being drunk and disorderly outside the Courthouse bar.
Christopher Phillip Egan, aged 25,of Strang Close, admitted the offence and was also ordered by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes to pay £125 prosecution costs.
Egan was previously charged with disorderly behaviour on licensed premises which he said he was going to deny but the charge was amended to being drunk and disorderly.
Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court how police were called to the Courthouse bar on October 20 at 12.55am.
A row had broken out after a woman had refused to leave and there was an ongoing altercation inside a side door of the bar.
Egan was present and said that he had been unfairly treated but then became aggressive and verbally abusive to police and swearing.
He was subsequently arrested.
Defence advocate Ian Kermode said: ’Mr Egan accepts outside the club he had used abusive words to the police. He was intoxicated at the time.
’However, he wishes to make it clear he was intending to contest any disorderly behaviour on licensed premises charge. He couldn’t understand why he was being asked to leave the premises and certain people were being pushed about and his brother was being arrested.’
Egan’s brother, Cieran Adam Egan, aged 21, of Strang Close, was fined £300 during a previous court appearance for being drunk and disorderly.
