Douglas coastguard was called out today (Wednesday) after they received a call about a man and his dog stuck on a cliff face.

The call came in around 10am reporting that a man had ventured down to rescue his pet at Little Ness on Marine Drive.

Climbing down to save his dog, the man struggled to carry himself and his pet back to safety.

Once on the scene, the Coastguard threw a line to reach the casualty before a member of their rope rescue team was sent down to help.

As a matter of priority, the man was secured first, before focusing on the large dog.

Both were then brought up to the cliff surface, resulting in a successful rescue mission.

Overall, the call-out took an hour from start to finish, which included returning all equipment back to the station to be ready for service again.

In a Facebook statement, the Douglas Coastguard said: ‘The public are reminded that if an animal of theirs becomes stuck on a cliff ,rather than endanger themselves, they should dial 999 and ask for the Coastguards to recover it for them.’

There are currently five Coastguard teams located around the island, to provide a response within 20 minutes of any part of the coastline.
