A man has been convicted of being drunk and disorderly after he grabbed a bouncer by the throat.

Robert John Bell, of Richmond Grove, admitted the offence before magistrates in Douglas and will be sentenced on January 22 after a probation report has been completed.

The court heard that, on December 2 at 1.40am, police were called to Jaks bar on Loch Promenade after a report of Bell, aged 34, refusing to leave.

Staff said he was too drunk to be allowed in but Bell was said to have grabbed a wall to prevent them from moving him.

Bell was said to have pushed a bouncer in the chest and grabbed his hair, wrenching his head back.

The bouncer then dealt with two other people but Bell was then said to have continued his anger pushing the bouncer again causing him to bite his tongue.

He was then said to have grabbed the bouncer by the throat and was eventually arrested.

Bell gave ’no comment’ responses when interviewed.

Magistrates ordered that, ’given the level of violence’, the probation report should consider all options, including custody.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500.
