A man who grabbed a bouncer by the throat and threatened to kill him has admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour on licensed premises.

Michael Andrew Hoctor, aged 30, of Croit e Quill, Laxey, will be sentenced on January 29 after a probation report has been prepared.

The court heard how, on December 2 at 1.40am, a fight occurred outside Jaks bar on Loch Promenade, Douglas.

When it calmed down, Hoctor was said to have got involved, squaring up to a bouncer.

He was said to have attempted to get the bouncer in a headlock then grabbed him by the throat.

The men ended up on the ground and Hoctor told the bouncer: ’I’ll kill you.’

The bouncer broke free but Hoctor was said to have squared up to him again saying: ’I know people. I’ll kill you.’

Police restrained Hoctor but it was said that he bit a bouncer on the chest during another scuffle on the ground, something which he denied doing in court.

The court heard that he has no previous convictions.

Defence advocate David Clegg asked for an adjournment so the report could be prepared before sentencing.

Prosecutor Roger Kane said that he would look into whether the charge was correct as it was unclear whether the area outside Jaks was classed as part of the licensed premises.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered that the report consider all options including custody.
