A Ballasalla man must pay £2,373 compensation to the owner of Ye Olde Bakery shop in Ballasalla after damaging the front door.
Kenneth Hunter, of Douglas Road, in Ballasalla, told police he had drunk a litre of vodka and had no recollection of the incident on October 28.
Blood was left at the scene along with a bracelet outside the door which led police to Hunter, aged 39.
He was initially charged with attempted burglary, which he had denied but when the charge was amended to property damage he changed his plea to guilty.
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court police were called to Ye Olde Bakery after a rock was thrown through a glass door and the lock was damaged.
When interviewed, Hunter handed in a prepared statement saying he had woken on the day of the incident with a headache due to an old head injury.
Hunter said that he suffered from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and took a lot of medication.
He said that he could not get rid of his headache and had found the litre of vodka in his flat but did not normally drink.
Hunter admitted the bracelet was his but denied committing the offence and said he had no knowledge of the damaged door.
After forensics confirmed the blood matched Hunter’s he was interviewed again but said that he could not remember being at the shop and the type of behaviour repulsed him.
Advocate Peter Taylor said: ’Mr Hunter is deeply remorseful.
’He had not realised he had done this.
’He didn’t set out in his own mind to deliberately do it but he has deliberately damaged the door.
’He had a complete blackout but accepts he was at the scene due to the blood.’
