A pub customer smashed a glass pane in a door at the Albert pub in Douglas.

Michael Gregory Frank Ashton, aged 34, of Castletown, was fined £300 when he appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

He was also ordered to pay £60 compensation to the bar owner after admitting a charge of criminal damage.

Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court that police were called to the Douglas pub on November 8 at 11.20pm after Ashton had smashed the pane.

He was still in the bar area and his identity was confirmed on CCTV footage.

Ashton admitted he had done it, saying it had been a reckless act rather than deliberate.

Defence advocate Paul Glover asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea and admissions to police.

Mr Glover said that Ashton had offered to pay the pane at the time and was happy to pay any compensation.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered him to also pay £125 prosecution costs.
