A man taken to hospital by ambulance after a fall has been fined for swearing loudly at A&E.
Jacob Leonard Martin Lane, of Empress Drive, Douglas, admitted a charge of being drunk and disorderly at Noble’s Hospital.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Lane: ’It was undoubtedly distressing for people dealing with you and people waiting to be treated.’
Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the court that police were asked to assist ambulance staff with 25-year-old Lane at Peel Road in Douglas on October 27.
He had suffered a head injury and they were trying to get him into an ambulance.
At accident and emergency, Lane was aggressive and agitated, using foul language and he was arrested.
The court heard that he had received a caution for a similar offence last year.
Defence advocate Stephen Wood said: ’Mr Lane has to accept matters regarding alcohol are bringing him to the attention of the court. He had injuries to his head and lip.
’The cause of those was him falling down outside Bordellos. His bottom teeth went through his top lip.
’He was taken to A&E and before he receives treatment police are taking him to the toilet.
’He began to swear quite loudly.
’It has been accepted we are not dealing with a man shouting at the top of his lungs. But he accepts wrongdoing.
’The swearing was not on the face of it directed towards officers or anyone in particular but he is using inappropriate words.’
