A man from Santon has been fined £400 for possessing £24 worth of cannabis.
Jonathan Stewart, of Main Road, pleaded guilty to the offence and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs by Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.
He was said to be stopping at roundabouts event though no other vehicles were nearby.
Police spoke to Stewart and said that he appeared pale and startled, and was mumbling with slurred speech.
A strong smell of cannabis was also said to be coming from the car and Stewart handed over a small bag of cannabis weighing 1.2 grams.
During a police interview Stewart said the drug was for personal use only but refused to accept that it was illegal to possess it.
Defending Stewart in court, advocate John Wright said: ’This is a gentleman who has health problems and is using cannabis to self-medicate, along with prescription drugs.
’In the last 36 hours he has been in police custody and has not had any access to his medication, though he has been given alternative medication.’
