A takeaway manager who punched a man then urinated on him as he lay on the ground with a broken ankle has been jailed.

Konrad Jakub Krajewski, of Marina Road, admitted two counts of common assault and was sentenced to four months in prison.

Magistrates also ordered the 30-year-old to pay £800 in compensation to his victim.

We previously reported that Krajewski was in Jaks with his girlfriend and another man on May 6 at 10pm. The victim was also in Jaks with two friends.

The six sat together as Krajewski was said to have known the victim for about 12 years.

They had worked together but had not arranged to meet up on the night in question.

At between midnight and 1am the victim and Krajewski were seen across the road from Jaks where there is no CCTV.

They were then seen in Granville Street on CCTV with the victim holding his hands up before being punched in the face by Krajewski, which caused the man’s glasses to fall off.

He put his glasses back on and then tried to punch Krajewski but missed.

Krajewski then punched the man twice which caused him to fall down.

The fall was later found to have caused the man to break his ankle but prosecutor Roger Kane said that it could be argued that Krajewski had acted in self-defence when the punches that caused the fall were thrown.

As the man lay on the ground he got his phone out and Krajewski was then seen urinating on him before leaving.

Police arrived and found the victim lying in a puddle of liquid unable to get up.

Krajewski was later arrested and when interviewed claimed he had acted in self-defence.

Charges

When quizzed over urinating on the man he remained silent.

Krajewski was initially charged with asssault causing grievous bodily harm and threatening behaviour but they were withdrawn and replaced with the common assault charges.

Advocate Paul Glover said that Krajewski had self-referred to Motiv8 to ’rethink his relationship with alcohol’.

The advocate said: ’He has realised aspects of his relationship with alcohol are perhaps unhealthy.

’He says he is getting great benefit from working with Motiv8.

’We would ask the court to consider references which paint a starkly contrasting picture of a hard-working, family man who cares for his father and two children.

’He is also well-liked by his ex-partner.

’He accepts he has committed these offences and doesn’t like the picture of the person painted before the court this morning.’

Mr Glover continued: ’His employees are at risk of losing their job, his father is at risk of losing his carer, and his children are at risk of losing their father.’

The advocate went on to urge magistrates to follow the recommendation of a probation report which suggested a suspended sentence.

Appalling

But chair of the magistrates Lisa Horton told Krajewski: ’Though you have no previous for violence the second of these assaults was particularly disgusting.

’The victim could have been no further threat to you when he was on the floor yet you chose to urinate on him.

’We have considered suspending the sentence but your actions were so appalling we find there are no grounds to.’
