A Douglas man has been jailed for 16 weeks after threatening a woman he knew at her home while carrying a lock knife.

Glenn James Anderson, of Derby Road, was also banned from licensed premises and purchasing or being sold alcohol for six months.

We previously reported how, on July 9 at 5.35am, 43-year-old Anderson had entered the house of a woman in Belmont Terrace in Douglas and made threats to her while he was carrying the knife.

The woman said Anderson told her if she was male, he would have ’no problem sticking the knife in her’.

He left the house but was later located by police and a small lock knife was found in the hood of his hooded top.

Defending Anderson in court, his advocate Paul Glover said: ’Mr Anderson does have anger issues and difficulties noted in the doctor’s report.

’He is seeing the right people to address these issues. We would ask the court to find that these difficulties have played some part in these offences. He has accepted the offending. He has a history of substance abuse. He is still in contact with the woman.

’He has been of relatively good character over the last few years with the exception of a driving offence.

’He’s trying to put his recent problems behind him. He does accept he has demons and he’s trying to address them.’

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said while passing sentence: ’It is clear you have long-standing mental health issues and issues with drug misuse. The doctor’s report says your behaviour tends to become bizarre.

’An aggravating factor is that you were intoxicated at the time of the commission of these offences.

’These offences involved a threat to the woman. Your comments were heard during her ’999’ call. You entered her home while intoxicated with a knife.’

Anderson was sentenced to 16 weeks’ jail for provoking behaviour and eight for possessing an offensive weapon, to run concurrently.
