A 20-year-old Douglas man has appeared in court after admitting breaching a community service order.
Ryan Ali Mahmoud El Meligy, of Castle Street, missed four appointments with probation services after he was sentenced to 180 hours community service in October last year.
The court heard El Meligy had completed 140.3 hours of the order but failed to attend a meeting in October 2016 as well as work groups on March 5, March 26 and August 9.
A probation report said that El Meligy had adopted a ’when I can I will’ attitude. He was said to have told probation he missed one meeting because he was seeing Isle of Man Immigration Services but this turned out to be a lie.
Defence advocate Peter Taylor said that his client had had a ’rude awakening’ since being remanded in custody for the breaches and that his father, who he works for, was going to allow him time off work to complete the community service.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes allowed the order to continue, with a fine of £100 and prosecution costs of £50, but warned El Meligy: ’This is an order of the court, not something you do when you’ve got nothing better to do.’
