An Onchan man has been jailed for 20 weeks after three assaults on police officers.
Callum Robert Dubost, of Palm Court, admitted hitting one officer in the face with his own baton during the incident on January 21.
The 20-year-old admitted two counts of assault with intent to resist arrest, one of assaulting a police officer, failing to provide a breath sample, failing to comply with a traffic direction, and having no insurance.
He was also banned from driving for five years with an order to retake his test at the end of the ban and must attend a drink-drive rehabilitation course.
Defending Dubost in court his advocate Paul Rodgers asked for the sentencing to be adjourned to allow time for a psychiatric report to be prepared.
However, Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ruled that the adjournment was not justified as the issue had never been raised previously during proceedings and there had been no indications that Dubost had not been fit to plead or give instructions.
Mr Rodgers asked that the court follow the recommendation of a probation report for a suspended sentence.
Mrs Hughes said while passing sentence that there had been kicks and punches to police officers and that Dubost had hit one officer across the face with his own baton.
’All the police officers had to be taken to A & E, fortunately they were minor injuries,’ said the Deputy High Bailiff.
’You were abusive during the intoxiliser process.’
Dubost was sentenced to 16 weeks’ custody for the first assault with intent to resist arrest, 12 weeks for the second, and 10 weeks for assaulting a police officer, all to run concurrently.
He was sentenced to four weeks for failing to provide a breath sample and no separate penalty was made for the offences of having no insurance and failing to conform to a traffic direction.
