A man who ordered cannabis online has been handed a suspended sentence.
Delano Bourdiec, aged 28, pleaded guilty in the summary courts in September and was sentenced by Deemster Cook on Friday at the Court of General Gaol Delivery.
Prosecutor Barry Swain said that on May 12 the police and Post Office staff intercepted a package address to Bourdiec’s address.
After the package was x-rayed, it was opened and inside officers found 88g of cannabis, with a street value of £1,600.
Bourdiec, of Conister Road, Douglas, made no reply by caution but during interview told police he had bought the cannabis from a link on Instagram due to the ’desperate’ situation of Covid-19.
Deemster Graeme Cook said that, after reading the social enquiry report, he was minded to give Bourdiec, who represented himself, a suspended sentence of six months’ custody suspended for one year.
